Fabric Compatibility Check: Ensure the fabric is steam-safe (e.g., certain types of taffeta or heavy-coated fabrics may develop water spots).
Equipment Inspection: Ensure the steamer plate is perfectly clean and scale-free to prevent staining light-colored fabrics.
Use of Distilled Water: Use only distilled water to avoid mineral deposits or white streaks within the fibers.
Spot Test: Steam a small, inconspicuous area at the bottom-back of the curtain to monitor the fabric’s reaction.
Header & Heading: Smoothing out creases at the mounting point, around eyelets, hooks, or pleat tape.
Main Panel: Evenly steaming the entire surface, paying close attention to stubborn folds caused by transport or storage.
Side Seams: Steaming the vertical seams to ensure they hang straight and do not “pucker” or pull the fabric.
Bottom Hem: Thoroughly treating the hem to provide the necessary weight for a crisp, even line at the floor.
Setting the Folds: Hand-shaping uniform vertical pleats across the entire width of the curtain.
Symmetry Audit: Ensuring the left and right sides of the window display identical pleat patterns.
Lining Care: For double-layered curtains (e.g., Blackout), steam the lining first, followed by the face fabric.
Decorative Elements: Steaming borders, trims, and valances/pelmets as the final touch.
Moisture Check: Confirming there are no “wet spots” or condensation drips left on the fabric.
Light Inspection: Checking the curtains against daylight to ensure all micro-creases have been removed.
